Sunset Queen
The Sunset Queen is the second edition of the Soutache Project. Like last time, the originator and creator was Urszula Łęczycka Jeziorska. The first creation was Soutache Princess. The success of the Princess inspired our team to make a new fairy-tale costume. But this one was different from its precursor. This time the costume is dominated by a warm palette of colours. Red, orange and purple are complimented with gold.
The dress’s style is the result of a combination of women’s fashion from the end of the 19th century (stand-up collar and puffed sleeves), the beginning of the 20th century (high waist), and folklore. Urszula was inspired by the creations of Alexander McQueen. She admired his projects at the exhibition “Savage Beauty” in London in 2015.
The dress was decorated with 208 jewellery elements. They were made by 54 female artists.
Agates, jade, jasper, hematite, lapis lazuli and ornaments made of resin, acrylic, ceramics, and glass were framed with soutache braid.
For my elements, I used ceramic cabochons which I supplemented with gold and blue crystals and beads.
In addition, the dress is decorated with 4 meters of tatting made by two handicrafts women. This took 60 hours, and they made 25,344 tatting picots!
When all the elements arrived at Urszula’s, she spent two weeks making the costume! The dress weighs 4 kg and requires two people to put it on.
The beautiful photos were made by Jola Borysewicz. The session took place in the Sobański Palace in Guzów (Pałac Sobańskich w Guzowie). The building is in the French Renaissance style and gave the session a magical and fairy-tale atmosphere.
The Sunset Queen was the beautiful Ethiopian model, Tsion Petros Chema.
As in the case of the Soutache Princess, the dress wanders among the creators of this costume, so it is very possible that you will see other photo sessions with this creation.
This beautiful costume was also on Polsat TV. The Polish music star Cloe appeared in elements of our costume at the Polsat SuperHit Festival 2022 in Sopot.
